AP Classes and Exams

  • The 2021 AP Exams will be administered between May 3 - May 14, 2021.  The exact date and time of each exam can be found on the AP section of College Board website. Southern Lehigh High School does not register students for exams or take payment.  Ordering and payment will be done completely through the online services, Total Registration and through the student’s College Board account.

Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition.

This year each AP exam costs $98.00.  There is a multi-step process to ordering AP Exams and all steps must be completed before exams can be ordered.

Prior to Registration: Create a College Board Account

    • All students need to have a College Board account in order to register for AP exams.
    • Students should go to collegeboard.org and click on the Sign Up button to create an account.
    • This account should be created by the student and utilizes a non-school e-mail address. This account will follow you after your high school career.
    • If you already have a College Board account, ensure that you can log-in successfully.

Step 1: Sign up for AP Classes in Total Registration and Pay for Exams

    • Total Registration will open on September 1st, 2020. ALL AP students must go to Total Registration and sign up for all of their AP classes. This is how they will get their Join Codes to join all of their courses on the College Board website (required).
    • Begin the process by registering at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/390830. If you have registered for an AP exam in the past, please use the same account to register this year.
    • Here you will indicate both the AP courses you are taking this year and the exams you wish to take. You will receive your join codes and directions to complete the second required step.
    • Any exam fees will be paid online so be sure to have a debit card or credit card available before beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment.
    • Registration is not complete until students have printed the PDF of the confirmation page that is provided at the end with all of their Join Codes.
    • Payment must be completed by November 12th, 2020 to avoid a $40 late fee.

Step 2: Join AP Classes in College Board

    • College Board requires that each student joins their AP classes on the College Board website at myap.collegeboard.org or by clicking on the AP section when logged into their College Board account.
    • All students will join all of their AP Classes using the appropriate Join Codes provided to them at the end of their Total Registration.
    • This must be completed by October 2nd, 2020. Students cannot join their classes without their Join Codes.

Step 3: Indicate Taking the Test in College Board

    • Once you have successfully paid for your exams and have joined the class, you must indicate whether or not you are taking the exam. This is how an exam will get ordered for you.
    • Exams are defaulted to "Undecided" when you join a class.
    • You must indicate your exam status for each indvidual class. If you decided that you are not going to take an exam, you must indicate No to remove your name from the exam list.

Why Should I Take an AP Test?

  • Stand Out in College Admissions

Deciding to take an AP course lets colleges and universities know that you have what it takes to succeed in an undergraduate environment. When admissions officers see “AP” on your transcript, they know that what you experienced in a particular class has prepared you well for the challenges of college. Taking AP is a sign that you’re up for the most rigorous classes your high school has to offer.

    Earn College Credits

By taking an AP course and scoring successfully on the related AP Exam, you can save on college expenses: most colleges and universities nationwide offer college credit, advanced placement, or both, for qualifying AP Exam scores. These credits can allow students to save college tuition, study abroad, or secure a second major. AP can transform what once seemed unattainable into something within reach. (AP Website, 2017)
