Gifted Happenings - Marking Period 1

-Students are adding book reviews and podcasts to Mrs. Robbins' international Book Exchange wiki: http://slmsbookexchange.wikispaces.com

-Mr. Long, along with some HS Speech and Debate students, came to the middle school to talk to the students about speech and debate and the opportunities available to them to join the high school team this year.

-Students are working on writing feature stories for their unit on Journalism. The students are interviewing various teachers for the Meet the Middle School Staff page on our online newsletter, The Spartan Tribune.

-Sana, Jonathan and Mariama had their original poems chosen for publication in the America Library of Poetry 2014 Student Poetry Collection.

-Ellie, Alex, Justin, Andrew, Mikayla and Lindsay all wrote poems for the Creative Communications Contest and were chosen to be published.

-Students are reviewing and practicing using the write traits by collaborating on writing narrative stories. Each group was given a photograph and has to construct a story using the write traits: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, fluency, and conventions.
