    SPECIAL  EDUCATION  IDENTIFICATION  ACTIVITIES

    Teachers or parents who feel a child is exceptional or is experiencing academic, emotional or physical difficulties may request an evaluation to determine special program needs.  A parent request form is available through the school counseling or school psychologists' offices in each school or at the bottom of this page.  Evaluations are completed throughout the year in every school in the district.

    SERVICES  AND  PROGRAMS  AVAILABLE     

    Southern Lehigh School District provides students with the opportunity to receive services through academic, emotional, and physical support.  Classes for Learning Support, Emotional Support (4-12), and Speech and Language Support are operated by the Southern Lehigh School District.  Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21, in cooperation with the school district, operates classes for Life Skills Support, Autistic Support, Emotional Support (Grades K-3), Deaf and Hearing Impaired Support, Blind or Visually Impaired Support, and Pre-School services for at-risk students.  

    CONFIDENTIALITY

    Confidentiality is maintained on all personally identifiable information regarding students in accordance with SLSD School Board Policy #216 Education Records.  This policy can be found on the District website at www.slsd.org, click on “School Board” then “School Board Policies”.

    As part of the confidentiality guidelines for the collection, maintenance, release and subsequent destruction of education record for exceptional students, the SOUTHERN LEHIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT INCLUDING HOPEWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, LIBERTY BELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, JOSEPH P. LIBERATI INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL 4-6, SOUTHERN LEHIGH MIDDLE SCHOOL 7-8, AND THE SOUTHERN LEHIGH HIGH SCHOOL 9-12, hereby notify parents of their right to inspect, review, and receive a copy of their child’s educational records as stated in the SLSD School Board Policy #216 Educational Records.  Additional information regarding accessing your child’s records is available by calling the Southern Lehigh School District’s Special Education Department at (610) 282-3121 ext. 5501.
